Though it is difficult to demonstrate with certainty the direction of the borrowing, Spronk (1997: 80) is probably correct in his belief that it is more likely that the words of Nahum 2:1 were subsequently adapted by the author of Isaiah 40–66 (so also Keller 1972: 404; Rudolph 1975: 163; van der Woude 1978a: 190–91; Koole 1990: 186–87; and others). Spronk cites other passages in Isaiah that appear to be dependent on Nahum.
